Why Do White Spots Become More Visible in Summer?
Pityriasis versicolor is caused by an overgrowth of Malassezia, a type of yeast that normally lives on the skin.
Under conditions such as heat, humidity, and increased sweating, this yeast can multiply more than usual and produce visible patches.
The spots may appear white, pale, pink, tan, or light brown depending on a person’s natural skin tone.
They are commonly found on the:
- Upper back
- Chest
- Shoulders
- Neck
- Upper arms
The patches may be flat and slightly scaly, and some people experience mild itching.
