4. They Constantly Make Everything About Them
You tell them exciting news, and somehow the conversation becomes about their life.
You share a problem, and they immediately explain why their problems are worse.
Over time, you may begin feeling as though there’s never room for your feelings or experiences.
Friendship should allow both people to be heard.
5. They Gossip About Everyone
If someone constantly talks badly about other people behind their backs, consider what happens when you’re not around.
Gossip can be entertaining occasionally, but excessive gossip may signal that the person has difficulty respecting other people’s privacy.
And if they regularly share other people’s secrets with you, there’s a good chance they may eventually share yours too.
6. They Make You Feel Like an Emotional Punching Bag
Some people use friendship as an outlet for their frustration.
They complain constantly, dump their problems on you, and expect you to listen—but rarely ask how you’re doing.
You may eventually leave every conversation feeling exhausted rather than supported.
Being there for a friend is important, but emotional support should not become a one-way responsibility.
