The Discoloration Around the Outlet Is Another Clue
Look closely at the photo.
The orange color appears around the lower and side portions of the receptacle and wall plate.
If an outlet itself is becoming discolored, brown, black, melted, or unusually warm, that’s an additional reason to stop using it and have it inspected.
A little discoloration can sometimes indicate that the receptacle or its connections have been exposed to excessive heat.
