A professional finish isn’t achieved immediately after the screws go in. The joints need tape and compound, often followed by multiple coats and sanding. A ceiling also makes imperfections particularly noticeable because light can reveal uneven areas.
That labor can account for much more of the quote than the actual drywall sheets.
When Would $1,500 Seem Expensive?
The quote starts looking questionable if the ceiling is very small and the contractor is literally only installing a couple of sheets without demolition, finishing, painting, or additional repairs.
For example, if this were a tiny 8×8-foot area with easy access, no removal, no complicated cuts and no finishing work, $1,500 would deserve a closer look.
But if the quote covers a substantial hallway or multiple sections, complete installation, finishing, cleanup and disposal, the price becomes much easier to justify.
