This Small Hidden Refrigerator Feature Could Potentially Lower Your Power Bill
Your refrigerator works around the clock, but many people never explore the small settings that can affect how efficiently it operates.
One feature in particular may be worth checking: the Energy Saver setting.
🔍 Look Inside Your Refrigerator
Depending on the model, you may find a button or setting labeled:
- Energy Saver
- Eco Mode
- Power Saver
- Vacation Mode
The exact feature varies considerably between refrigerators, so it’s important to check your owner’s manual before changing an unfamiliar control.
⚡ What Does Energy Saver Actually Do?
On some older refrigerators, an Energy Saver switch controls small heaters around the door frame. These heaters help prevent condensation from forming around the doors.
When conditions are relatively dry, switching the heaters off can reduce electricity use. GE Appliances specifically explains that some of its older refrigerators allow users to turn these heaters off through an Energy Saver switch.
Samsung similarly notes that, on compatible models, Energy Saver mode can save a small amount of energy because it turns off the heater in the center door area.
đź’§ There’s One Important Catch
If you notice moisture or condensation around the refrigerator doors, the heater may be needed.
