But there is a surprising problem hiding behind those convenient screens: some shoppers have learned how to manipulate the system to pay far less than the actual price of an item.
One of the best-known methods has an unusual name:
The Banana Trick.
It sounds harmless. It isn’t.
The term refers to a form of self-checkout fraud in which a customer enters a cheaper produce item—traditionally bananas—instead of the more expensive product actually being purchased.
