Many people come up with an answer almost immediately.
Then they discover that their answer doesn’t actually explain every detail of the riddle.
That’s the moment to start over.
A good riddle should have an answer that fits the wording—not simply an answer that sounds plausible.
So before you give up, go back to the beginning and examine every sentence.

If you figured out the trick without looking for the answer, you have a sharp eye for wordplay.
If you didn’t, don’t feel bad. The entire point of the riddle is to make your brain follow an obvious path before revealing that the path isn’t quite what it seemed.
